lost life
by: allison ryder

the sand dwindles through
a tunnel of glass,
the broken pieces-
the loss of life, the loss
of a trigger deep within.
it’s like shaking the glass,
reaching out – waiting,
for more sand to fall. none left.
such a short life,
but it was bigger than that.
the memory of trauma,
of a nightmare too black to breathe in.
the hour glass shatters,
the sand disappears,
and we find ourselves searching
in a spiral hallway,
for the life we never knew,
the life we’ll never find,
the life we lost.
deep inside.
but to sacrifice these words
and let them burn in silence;
so you find peace and i bear the burden.
for you, i would.
to lose one.
and not two.
