it sticks with you,
like a sailor’s first storm
or a driver’s first accident,
even a lover’s first heartbreak.
it rips at your soul a little.
you were that weak
and that strong.
it washes off like hot water.
once you’re done, you don’t look back –
until warm water flushes over you
and the wounds reopen.
they throw you back into thought.
it’s your trigger.

“you sit here night after night and you pray for the people you love. do you think they know? do you think they think of and pray for you too?”
I don’t know. I don’t think about that. I’d hope they think of me sometimes because I think of them all the time.
Christmas shouldn’t be about money. it should be about thought, appreciation, & the happiness of giving. it’s about decorating the tree, holiday movies and songs, baking with family, eating with friends, drinking hot cocoa, passing down traditions, gatherings with family, the first snowfall.. there’s just something completely magical about Christmas if you believe in it. it’s an occasion filled with love & appreciation.. don’t forget that.
it’s not what i say. it’s what i don’t say. it’s the heart, the kiss, the thought, the gifts i give, the things i do without expectation, the sincere apologies, the honesty, the way i spend my time, the words i write, the dreams, the touch, the secrets, it’s the passion, the selfless actions, the motives, the intentions, the way i love, the love i give, the beliefs, the opinions. it’s not what i say that defines nor determines who i am. it’s what i’ve never said.
